Country's
First Sea Water Desalination Plant:
"
TEAM ", as early in
1988, in line with its Corporate philosophy
of linking its activities with national priorities,
ventured into the area of providing pure drinking
water to the masses. It visualised, to alleviate
the water scarcity in Tamil Nadu, Desalination
is the only practical and viable answer.

To
prove it is technically possible and commercially
viable, to convert Sea Water into potable water,
TEAM
, at its own cost, on a piece of land allocated
by the State Government on the Marina Beach, set
up a 50,000 litres capacity Desalination Plant,
to produce drinking water. The product water quality
was tested in leading laboratories and water supply
utilities in Chennai, SISIR Laboratory in Singapore
and it surpassed even WHO standards. |

The plant run successfully for two years, applauded
by various sections of the Society. This plant
catalysed the Government of India to set up the
National Technology Mission for Drinking Water,
under the leadership of Late Shri Rajiv
Gandhi.

The Government of India, under the “National
Drinking Water Mission” decided to
set up about 140 desalination plants and
set up various desalination plants, on a
fast track. Team was the only qualified
Engineering Contractor from the South. in
which Team also was a part in supplying
the plants in South. Team successfully completed
the O & M contract.
Apart
from this, Team has installed, more than
100 plants for the State Government and
Industries. |
Now,
MTL has takenover
the water related activities from TEAM
